A Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus), bathed in sunset light - hops onto a piece of driftwood at Boundary Bay, British Columbia, Canada. This Snowy Owl was part of a relatively rare irruption in 2012 and are not normally found here in large numbers.

Great shot. Such a beautiful bird. We had quite a few along the coast in WA one winter when the came down from BC. Apparently they were not finding enough food in CA because of their large number that year.

Thanks - glad you like this one! In 2012 we had a large irruption of Snowy Owls - which is probably the year you remember. The reasons for the migration isn't generally to find food, but a variety of other factors such as an abundance of food during the summer breeding season.
