Description
A Sandhill Crane (Antigone canadensis) chick walking through the plants along a lake shoreline in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Sandhill Crane chicks can leave the nest quite quickly, even within 8 hours of hatching. They are even able to swim at that age. This chick was following its parents around the shoreline and was periodically fed various bits of food by them. Sandhill Cranes are omnivorous so these foods likely included invertebrates, insects, reptiles, seeds, and berries.
